Town of Poughkeepsie - Car vs Fuel Delivery Truck - 5/01/09

11 posts in this topic

The Arlington Fire Department, Town of Poughkeepsie Police, and the Dutchess County Haz-mat team responded to an auto accident involving a fuel oil delivery truck and a car on Dutchess Turnpike / Rte 44 near Friendly Honda this morning. The force of the collision pinned the cars driver and took out the rear wheels of the fuel oil truck causing it to roll over coming to rest on its side. AFD Firefighters and Medics extricated both drivers and transported each to St Francis Trauma Center. The Oil Truck reportedly had several thousand gallons of fuel oil and kerosene on board a small amount of which did leak from the vehicle. Firefighters and DC Haz-mat personnel contained the leaking contents and stabilized the vehicle. Once this was done, the contents were transferred to another vehicle and the vehicle was righted and removed from the scene. Dutchess Turnpike / Rte 44 was closed for some six plus hours as a result of the incident.

Dare I say it....the car won?!

I like the "Command 3267" on the edges of the hatch, that's a smart idea.

Looks like a well run, organized incident, and part of that should be attributed to good use of the NIMS that so many don't believe in.

I agree. Also, the lightbar on the underside of the hatch is a good idea also, I have never seen anything quite like that.

The license plates that say fire on them on the command car, are they similar to the plates that the police have that say "police"? I have never seen them on fire vehicles before.

Great shots Bill as always, looks and sounded like a well organized incident. Nice to see some of the fellow EMTBRAVO members at work, doing what they do best.

Command 3267 looks like a well designed vehicle. Great job to all the folks who worked that, things look well organized.

The shop at AFD does a great job. Give Joe T Sr. an idea of what you want and the job gets done. Here they are.
