Hundreds fled one building where employee said no warning was provided

NEW YORK - A federal government exercise Monday involving low-flying planes created a panic in New York City and parts of New Jersey.

Two fighter jets escorted a low-flying Boeing 747 over lower Manhattan as part of a photo shoot.

In a statement afterwards, the NYPD said the flight "was authorized by the FAA for the vicinity of the Statue of Liberty, with directives to local authorities not to disclose information about it, but to direct all inquiries to the FAA Air Traffic Security Coordinator."

This was a DoD operation using the back-up presidents aircraft. Local officials were notified but not the general public. This looks classified as well considering it involves the presidents aircraft......

Off all the cities they have to do this "classified operation" with and for a photo op. It was only 8 years ago when 2 747's crashed into the trade center killing 3000 plus people.

A couple of weeks ago on the 16th, I was eating lunch in the conference room at work, and the building shook. Four F-16s were circling fairly low, and I watched them head south toward the city and start circling there. Naturally we all feared the worst, but after some phone calls, I found out it was just a flyover for the Yankees opening day. Guess I would have known if I was a Yankees fan : )

Make sure that you use correct information. No 747's were hijacked on September 11th 2001. The planes that were flown into the World Trade Center were 767's and the planes that were flown into the Pentagon and Shanksville, PA were 757's.

It is extremely important that the details of that day are not lost in translation.

This reminds me of mothers day morning 2002 @ 0400 hrs- camp smith had live fire training with automatic weapons, I woke up and said to myself "this is not good" You could hear the weapons loud and clear and knowing its not normal @ 0400hrs I put a call into the NYSP, the trooper at the desk who was a friend said that he didn't know what was going on and cars were sent to investigate. Many in the Tri-Village area thought that Indian Point was under attack.Calls flooded local police agencys. NYSP determined that it was training at Camp Smith. Needless to say local politicians met with Camp Smith and I don't think it will happen again!

I guess that just emboldened the people who planned/carried out the attack on 9/11. They want people to fear, thats the whole point of terrorism.

This is the exact thought I had when I saw the panic and pandemonium on the news: "Great, they won." Obviously "Won" is an overstatement, but we certainly haven't won either.

While someone should have anticipated the reaction, it shows that many people live in fear that anything out of the ordinary could be terrorism. They have put fear into the hearts of many, caused us to change the way we live and cost us a ton of money not to mention the lives of thousands of Americans. So while we go on living our lives in relative freedom, make no mistake that terrorists can score a few of these things in their Win category.
