Sadly these events are becoming so common it borders on a burden to try and attend all of them. I didn't know John from a hole in the wall until a few weeks ago when I met him at Sloan. He is genuinely a great guy who has been very involved in protecting those sickened after 9/11. After 5 minutes with him, you can't help but like him and despite how seriously ill he is in minutes we were laughing like old friends. They've got some pretty impressive prizes lined up for the raffle and Mulcahys is a great spot even if it is out in Long Island.

Johns Story:

Please allow us to take this time to introduce ourselves and call on your assistance. We are active and retired New York City Firefighters who are working to assist our ailing friend and brother Firefighter John McNamara.

John, a 10 year veteran of the FDNY, is currently assigned to Engine Co. 234 in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. He is a first responder who not only assisted during the search and rescue efforts of September 11th, 2001, but also responded to New Orleans and assisted the New Orleans Fire Department and the citizens of Louisiana during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Formerly a resident of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and currently a resident of Blue Point, Long Island, John 43, is valiantly struggling to survive a nearly 3 year battle with stage 4, metastatic colon cancer. John and his wife Jennifer have a 2 ½ year old son named Jack.

In the firefighting tradition of “leaving no man behind”, John’s family, friends and brother firefighters at Engine 234 / Ladder 123, Engine 220 / Ladder 122 , the Blue Point Volunteer Fire Department and the New York City Firefighter Brotherhood Foundation are working hard to see that John is supported as his battle continues to become more difficult.
