Diane Latten woke up early one morning recently choking on her own blood.

Suffering from a severe nose bleed caused by chronic high blood pressure, the 56-year-old Sleepy Hollow woman went to the emergency room at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center.

"There's something about seeing your own blood that makes you call 911," said Latten as she sat wearing a hospital gown, tubes and bandages in her nose.
