Austin, TX Fire Department using transfers to cut costs

Chief: Engine staff would be reduced only as a fiscal last resort.

Austin, TX fire officials said Friday that they are relying on transfers and reassignments to help whittle the department's budget and will use a plan to reduce the number of firefighters on some engines as a last resort.
