The Annual Warren Wetzel, MD Trauma / Emergency Medicine Symposium represents the only regional conference dedicated solely to the management of trauma patients. As such, it has been able to attract a nationally recognized faculty. New York City has 20 trauma centers, and the Symposium provides an important forum for the sharing of science and ideas related to trauma.

Program Goals

Physicians and nurses should be aware of the many complex management strategies available for the treatment of trauma victims in order to minimize complications and mortality. The educational goals of the Symposium are for the attendees to:

Gain awareness concerning traumatic brain injury in the professional athlete

Review current diagnostic and management practices in the penetrating neck trauma

Recognize and understand the key issues in wilderness and environmental medicine

Learn about and understand current controversies regarding the management of abdominal trauma

Learn and become aware of new algorithms in resuscitating the blunt trauma patient

Gain awareness of key issues central to managing the obese trauma patient

Explore how trauma systems affect trauma triage protocols

Introduce the healthcare professonal to related issues in gang violence

While it is largely geared towards in-hospital issues there is always plenty of good info for use in the field and it looks like there will be even more this year as more and more EMS personnel attend. It is approved for NYC REMAC CME credits, not sure about any other regions.
