This again points out the importance of conducting live fire evolutions correctly in accordance to NFPA 1403 and the required permit processes. While I think that some of these charges are ridiculous and more then likely will get dropped, like the arson charge, and that no jail time will be required, there more then likely will be some hefty fines. Whether tax payer funding should have to cover them is another debate being they did the burns in that capacity. If it is known that they willfully disregarded the asbestos and permit then they should not be covered IMO. They will have some pretty good arguments in front of them as they are PA state fire instructors. Follow NFPA 1403 and your burns will be safer and conducted appropriately!

With todays legal system, you have to be out of your mind to do a live burn in an aquired structure. Forget the live fire, just training in the structure without the "proper paperwork" can get you jammed up. You pulled ceilings with fiberglass insulation!! cough, cough where is my lawyer!!! All it takes is one person, and thats what it sounds like happened at the incident in question.
