STAMFORD -- Three families lost their homes Tuesday after a fire burned through a three-story wood frame house in Stamford's East Side neighborhood.

Stamford Fire and Rescue (SFR) arrived at 21 Orange St. at 12:20 p.m. to find flames running up the rear of the house, engulfing portions of all three levels, said Capt. Jimmy Romaniello. The house next door at 23 Orange St. also suffered minor exterior damage. ...

STAMFORD -- Two city police officers who saved a 2-year-old boy and his grandmother from a burning East Side building Tuesday were publicly commended Wednesday. Sgt. Richard Phelan and Officer Eddie Davis were the first to arrive at a house fire at 21-23 Orange St. at about 12:15 p.m. They found two people outside the three-story apartment building who told them no one else was inside, police said. ...

Officers honored for heroic acts in Orange Street fire

STAMFORD -- Two Stamford police officers were honored Monday morning for pulling a 2-year-old child and his elderly grandmother from their burning home last month.

Sgt. Rich Phelan and Officer Ed Davis were presented with honorary certificates and two golden keys to the state by Sen. Scott Frantz, R-36, and Lt. Gov. Michael Fedele, who took time to attend the brief ceremony at police headquarters along with the friends and family of the officers. ...
