Car Vs Fuel Delivery Truck - IFO 509 Vassar Rd. - Arlington FD / T.O.P PD

18 posts in this topic

The Arlington Fire Department and Town of Poughkeepsie Police responded for a reported car vs fuel truck accident in front of #509 Vassar Rd on the late afternoon of January 9th. Upon their arrival they had three patients in a vehicle that had rear-ended a fuel delivery truck..... The impact caused heavy damage to the vehicle pinning the occupants but fortunately the tank on the oil truck remained intact. The patients were quickly extricated and transported to St Francis Trauma Center for treatment of their injuries..... The driver of the truck was uninjured......

This oil delivery truck was westbound on Vassar Rd. when it was rear-ended by a small Nissan sedan.

It appears that the bright sunset may have been a contributing factor in the accident....

I really feel bad for the driver in this incident..... I believe he was also involved in another incident that the Hughsonville FD responded to last May 1st....

IMO -Both of these incidents were most likely not his fault...... The bridge above collapsed while he was trying to cross it to make a delivery to a single residence which had held the weight for years under the same conditions until he tried it....

Bill,

I don't have any idea what happened in the accident today but i can tell you from experience (i drove the same size oil tanker for 5 years) that is a bridge that i would have never crossed with a fuel truck. I would have thought twice taking my personal vehicle over that.

I wouldn't have either but supposedly they had been getting deliveries over that bridge for years from what somebody claimed..... So, I guess he went for it....

I surely wouldn't of taken a fire truck over it.......
