Croton Fire 1/15/05

1 post in this topic

Original call was dispatched from 60 Control as a possible structure fire, recevied via cell phone.

First arriving units found a fire that spread from the fireplace to the surrounding wall and floor below. A small crack in the base of the fireplace appeared to be the result according to our CFD Fire Investigation Unit. E119 was first in, secured a hydrant and left room for TL44 to setup. A line was stretched to the basement area as well as a 2nd line to the first floor where the fireplace was. The contents of the fireplace were removed, the walls and floor were opened up and the fire was knocked down quickly. Damage was limited to the first floor wall & floor (B-side) around the fireplace, and the ceiling and "B" wall in the cellar. A nice stop that luckily was noticed while the residents were still awake.

Units on location: 2082 (IC), 2083 (Ops), 2084, 2085, 2087, 20811, E119, E120, TL44, R18, 55B1.

Ossining relocated E97(?) to Croton Station #3 for coverage. Units were clear and back to service within 90 minutes. An approximate total of about 55 members were on location.
