Route 7 Closed in New Milford

DOT is reporting that Route 7 is closed in both directions at the Housatonic River. Estimated to be closed for 7 to 8 hours. Good God, that cannot be pretty. Route 7 at rush hour on a normal day is like trying to commute through the Battle of Midway, I can only imagine what it looks like now.

I'm guessing they mean at Veterans' Memorial Bridge downtown. It seems every time it rains more than 10 minutes they have to shut it down. They whole lowering the road by 3 feet when they widened Rt 7 didn't do much to reduce the flooding like they thought it would...And yes, it is absolutely miserable. The fact that the only way to get to the ambulance barn is through that traffic doesn't help much.

I haven't heard what the flow is at the Stevenson Dam in Monroe / Oxford yet but I know that all of the gates except the flood slip overs were opened last night. I missed the announcement this morning of the FD radios along the river.

(The Stevenson Dam is a power generating dam not a flood control dam.)
