How does your Dept. respond to calls??

After reading many of the different posts in the different threads, wanted to see how all the departments in the area respond to their calls. Which depts in the area require that members must respond to the firehouse to get their gear and board the apparatus there, or does your department allow you to carry your gear in your own vehicle and allow you to respond directly to the call, while drivers and whom-ever maybe at the firehouse at the time of the call to respond with the rig.

In Ardsley FD. all members, with the exclusion of the Chief and Asst Cheifs, respond to the firehouse first. No members are allowed to respond to the scene in their PV, unless all apparatus have left quarters, and the IC requests add'l manpower to the scene. AT NO TIME DO PERSONAL VEHICLES ENTER THE NYS THRUWAY, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE CHIEF AND ASST CHIEFS.

in ardsley u have to respond to the fire house first then get on the trucks and go to the scene. here in delhi the heifs and some of the leutants go to the scene if there is no cheif that has signed on. the firemen have to respond to the quarters to man the trucks and we respond from the house. but if u are loser to the sene and u have your gear in the ar u can go to the scene but u r strongly disouraged from doing that and everytime u are ask why did u go to the sene and not the house.

In Lake Carmel the members respond to the fire house with the exception of the Chief, the 2 asst. Chiefs and the 3 Captains or an EMT if an Ambulance call.

BMFD members respond to the FH with the exception of the Chiefs and an occasional Deputy Chief. Generally no personal gear in POV's but some do. When a person is identified as a problem (usually a younger/newer member) the line officers tune them up.

Certain Fire Police units cover the route, scene, and FH in their POV's.

EMS Captain (an EMT) responds to westside daytime calls, sometimes and EMT's will be redirected to the scene to reduce response time on occasion.

If a call is anywhere but on the interstate, the ff's can respond in their pov's BUT unless your'e already driving on the highway you have to go to the firehouse and go on the apparatus. the restriction on pov's on highway calls has only been in effect for a couple years. Great idea, though.

We (Croton) respond with a minimal crew of a Driver/MPO and two firefighters per our S.O.G.s. The exception to this rule is Rescue 18 and Tanker 10, which can respond with the driver and one firefighter.

Per my company's policy (E119/T10), all members except Chiefs and Deputies must report to the firehouse first to ensure the apparatus are staffed. Once they are and are responding, personnel will respond in their POVs. However, many times the "extra" manpower from our company will respond to other stations and supplement their manpower as well.

Members of the CFD are allowed to and encouraged to respond on all calls, regardless of which companies are dispatched. This is the main reason we got away from putting the Company names on the gear, and everything just says "Croton" now.

Most calls are minor alarms - meaning one engine, TL44 and R18 respond. Only structural fires / possible fires get a full dept. response.

In Mohegan, all volunteers carry their gear with them and respond directly to the scene. The career personnel drive the apparatus to the scene. Volunteers can ride the apparatus to the scene if in quarters when an alarm comes in.

Hartsdale is split, paid and volunteer. All of our volunteer memebers run with their gear in thier perosnal vehicles, unless they are at the fire house or in a depatment car, then it is a given that thier gear is on the rig.

In Yorktown, regular members can respond via there personal vehicles, but junior corp. members are required to report to the firehouse first, then respond on the apparatus

In Millwood, ALL members are to respond to the house and get onto a rig except for the Chief and Asst Chiefs. Keep the POVs in the parking lot and NOT at the scene. Members are to keep there gear at the firehouse and not there POVs

In Mahopac, All members report to the fire house then respond to the scene in the trucks. With the exception of members "directly" passing the scene, or fire police.

Like Remember585 said, we report to the firehouse first man the truck with a crew then you can respond to the scene. We are allowed to keep it in our cars or firehouse, whatever prefrence you have. It comes in handy to have your gear in the car becuase if your engine or truck gets out the door so fast you have to take your own car anyway. Luckily we dont have a problem in our company and for the most part with the department with not reporting to the firehouse. 99.9% of the time our engine leaves with no less then 4 trust me it would leave with more but thats all that can fit on it/two man jumpseats.

In Larchmont The Personal Respond In Their Private Cars Unless They Happen To Be In The Station When A Call Comes In. Career Staff Drive The Rigs Except For Rescue 1 Which A Volunteer Can Drive With Training. Also Volunteer Personal Do Not Respond To Ems Calls Unless It Is A Minor Alarm, Like A Motor Vehicle Accident With Injuries Or Somthing Like That.
