Man arrested for using

charcoal grill

Used grill indoors, police said.

Ledyard (AP) - Ledyard police say they've arrested a man who lit a small charcoal grill inside his apartment and endangered his neighbors.

Abebe Jano, 40, was charged by police Monday after two people in the building became ill. Jano is charged with second-degree reckless endangerment.

Police say the grill created dangerous carbon monoxide levels in the apartment building. Two residents were taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

Abebe has been released on a $500 bond.

If he had just invited his neighbors over for dinner, he wouldn't have been arrested.

Thats pretty good. We had a guy that almost blew up his house in a drunken rage then in a seperate incident set his house on fire and tried to elude and fight the town police because he was once again two sheets to the wind and he went to county jail for six months. Wonder what this guy will get!!

Reminds me of a call we had about six years ago, three story house multi ocu first floor apartment had a grill in the bed room cooking chili peppers to ward of the evil spirts. top floor called 911 when the smoke started coming under the door. The whole building was charged with white smoke, took a little while to find the source. Just love those voodoo spells.

I usually say that when people call complaining about others barbecuing in side yards. All they have to do is offer a burger or frank, and you're good to go.

Job security. Last year we had a kitchen fire, when we got there the occupant had minor burns on his arms. When we asked him if what started the fire, "I was cleaning my oven with gasoline." ....amazing.

WEST HAVEN, Conn. -- A West Haven woman was being tested for carbon monoxide poisoning after falling ill while using a charcoal grill inside her home.

Fire officials said the woman's house lost power for a short time Tuesday night, and that she tried to heat coffee on a charcoal grill near the home's back door.

They said the victim became ill from the toxins given off by the grill. The woman said she felt sick in her chest.

The victim was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital, and then brought to Bridgeport Hospital to be tested for carbon monoxide poisoning.

Her condition was unknown Tuesday night.

Firefighters remained at the home Tuesday night to clear the house of any possible carbon monoxide.

With the economy as it is, and heating oil back east or electricity/natural gas prices still higher than a kite, more and more people, many poverty stricken or immigrants, will use their barbques for heat in their house, despite the warnings on charcol bags. It's too bad that people must resort to this to survive the cold winter...
