Stamford- Animal Ice Rescue 11-23-2008

12 posts in this topic

Here are some pics from a young deer through the ice call we had this

morning. We were able to get him out but he died a few hours after removal.

Members dried him off, gave him oxygen, and moved him to a heated garage but

to no avail. He apparently was in the water through the night. The incident

occurred at 0847 hours today and involved E-5 and the city animal warden.

The company cleared at 1042 hours.

The incident occurred at the E. Gaynor Brennan Golf course at 451 Stillwater

Road.

The crew was Capt. Pat Tripodi, FF Jerry Kutz (driver); and FF Jesse Gregory and FF

Bill Wieck who were in the exposure suits and made the grab.

Great effort to the rescuers you still made a difference even though the outcome was not a positive one.

My department had a rescue like this a few weeks ago. Deer stuck in a pool. They got him out alive but he took about ten steps and dropped dead...This looks like a good rescue

Not for nothing, but it looks like BW is sizing that thing up as a snack for his ride home? But then again, I could be wrong.

Great pictures Captain, they really showed the effort made for this rescue! Also, hell of an effort by you and your crew. As stated, although the animal did not pull through, your crew still went into the cold water to make the grab.

Its nice to see the compassion of FF's during such an incident.

A valiant attempt by Stamford FF's.....as someone who cares about animals, I appreciate the compassion displayed to this living creature by these FF's. As we know, despite our best efforts, the outcome is out of our hands, but it's good to know that every effort was made....especially when some departments wouldn't have even cared. It's also good practice for the upcoming winter.

BTW, awesome shots Jerry!!

Come on now REDDOG, the Advocate has it's uses. Puppy wee wee pads, and as litter box lining being two good ones that come to mind. And everyone knows that even a crappy newspaper is great for cleaning windows... it leaves no lint.

Great jobs guys, yet another example of firefighters doing what others can't or won't. Thanks

Cogs

did the deer come out easily or did it fight you guys? that seems like something that would take a little effort

He was so weak that once we got him to shore he collapsed. He was in bad shape. He came right out with no problems at all
