Newington Fire Dept, New Hampshire, LT. Christopher DeWolf, 41, died in the line of duty in a single-car accident while driving to his shift.

His vehicle skidded off an icy stretch of I-95 into a sign pole. He was an 18-yr veteran FF.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and FF community in Newington and Dover, N.H.

Firefighter Dies In Accident On Icy Road

Man Was Headed To Firehouse

UPDATED: 12:15 pm EST January 7, 2005

BOSTON -- Two New Hampshire Fire Departments are mourning the death of a well-known firefighter killed Thursday while driving to work in bad weather.

NewsCenter 5's Rhondella Richardson reported that Lt. Chris Dewolf was driving from his home in Kittery, Maine, when he crashed on Interstate 95 in Portsmouth, N.H.

Dewolf, 40, was driving to his Newington, N.H., firehouse to cover for fellow firefighters out on a call. He never made it. His Dodge Durango flipped over a guardrail. The veteran firefighter was wearing a seatbelt but did not survive.

"Certainly, Chris was the epitome of helping people. He enjoyed his job and was an excellent firefighter and paramedic," Dover Fire Department Capt. David McLean said.

He's mourned by firefighters in Newington and Dover, N.H., where he worked previously for 17 years. He's survived by his wife and two children.

"Right now our thoughts and prayers are with the family," Newington Fire Department Lt. Tom McQuade said. "This has to be the worst time for them ever, especially coming through the holidays."

Dewolf also worked with the National Fire and Emergency Training Network. He made many training videos to teach other firefighters. He was in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 11, 2001, and was able to videotape the Pentagon soon after the terrorists struck.
