Why is stat flight being landed if it is only a drill?

For one thing, so units involved in the drill can become familiar with what is expected of them in establishing a flight landing zone, and doing so under controlled conditions.

The Camp Smith drill was independant from the Rye Playland Drill. This was a drill for the staff at camp smith to be able to coordinate treatment and transport with the civilian units that cover the post. Stat Flight when available is very good with assisting with drills for the reasons Jack mentioned. I'm not sure why there would be any or thought of any protocol involved that they would have to be there for a drill. There was some discussion prior to the drill about when a medevac should be called and by whom being most GSW's from that area are not flown.

As far as the Rye Playand exercise, there wasn't much time to enjoy any rides once you made entry out of the staging area. Very well thought out exercise and to be involved with that many agencies was very interesting.
