fire departments from surrounding counties and towns have sent water tankers to provide more fire support in case of an emergency.

Jersey City's fire boat is prepared to suck water out of the Hudson River as well, and construction sites using torch cutters have been shut down for the day, said Mayor Jerramiah Healy.

The police department is patrolling through the area with large water tankers called water buffaloes to provide clean water, said Police Director Sam Jefferson.

Seems like Emergency Management is doing a good job - the local water utility ????

Sounds like a good emergency response. I wonder if NJ's super tanker system will be used for this, I know that its intention was to be able to provide potable water in the event of a disaster. Anyone from that area know if its being used?

They have had alot of trouble over there in Hoboken and Jersey City over the years with water main breaks. United Water is the utility the provides operations, but both cities retain ownership of the systems. Jersey City has its own reservoirs, and Hoboken also uses that supply.

I believe that 30" main is a transmission main, running into Hoboken.
