Indian Point Siren Test

10 posts in this topic

From WestchesterGov.com

Entergy will conduct a test of the Indian Point sirens on Wednesday, Sept. 24 begining at 10:30 a.m. This is only a test. No response on the part of the public is necessary.

In an actual emergency, the sirens would sound continously at full volume for four minutes, followed by the broadcast of an Emergency Alert System (EAS) message on radio and television stations. Sirens are not a signal to evacuate; but rather for people to tune to an EAS radio or TV station for information and instruction.

WHOOPS!!!

Indian Point Real Emergency Message sent out!

Indian Pt. sirens pass test but state glitch sends alert

By Greg Clary

The Journal News • September 25, 2008

After the 10:30 a.m. sounding of the 172 sirens across Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Orange counties, an emergency notification was sent to media saying an incident occurred at the plant.

It ended up on CNN and other cable stations' screen crawlers, creating concern for local officials.

Oswegowind,

It's safe to come home now! lol

What is scary is that the Sirens Sounded and a Real Emergency Message

was sent out..... Did anyone do anything?

The Indian Point "New" Sirens are such a joke.

You can't hear them!!!!

IP has been testing them well over a year.......

GET ONES THAT WE CAN HEAR OR GO BACK TO THE OLD

ONES THAT EVERYONE COULD HEAR!

Let's not take steps backwards with Emergency Alerting Systems.

What's next?

Indian Point conducted another "FULL VOLUME" Siren Test.

Is this a joke?

"Full Volume"

What does a Low Volume sound like?

I could hardly hear the Full Volume and I live about

300 FT away from one of the many sirens.

You CANNOT hear the New Sirens!

When is someone going to do something about this?

Anyone else hear or NOT hear them this morning?

Old Sirens were 100% better!

When they went off you knew it was the IP Siren!

My house would rumble.

I agree. Especially now with the colder weather its even harder to hear them through closed windows at home. If they can't increase the volume then maybe there needs to be more sirens.

I heard them fine all windows were closed and my son was watching tv and the tv was loud. As a matter of fact he asked me to turn the tv louder so he didn't have to hear the sirens.

Didn't hear a thing, and there's 2 on Washington St in Peekskill right near my house.
