One thing I've always liked about the European type rigs, functional and no flash.

We also have a large brush rig which is 4 x 4.

It has a seperate 500GPM pump and 1000 Gallon tank.

Many new safety features have been fitted to this truck as shown... Cab "halo" water system, In cab breathing masks and spray bars.

It has a rear deck to fight moving fires with hoses and pump controls on the deck, it also has a fold hold awning to protect firefighters if the rig is caught.

Last our little brush rig, it's getting a bit old and is due for replacement but still goes.

It has a very small 150 Gallon tank and a 250GPM pump

It is 4 x 4 and good for getting down our very narrow tracks and steep gorges.

Also doubles as command.

One thing I've always liked about the European type rigs, functional and no flash.

Yes they are definitely not flash but pretty good considering the SA Country Fire Service has 700 + peices of apparatus. We pay around $300,000AUD for the pumper, $250,000AUD for the Brush rigs.... take off about $50,000 to convert it to USD.

Still a few things to go onto the pumper like a Blitzfire and stokes basket.

Nice vehicles, they look well built, and as JBE said functional without a lot of flash. Thanks for sharing!

Looks like all that hose is rubber jacketed. Is there a specific reason for that?

Nice pics. Always love the Euro style rigs!!! Thanks for sharing.

One comment, it always seems like the Euro style rigs carry a whole lot less supply hose than the US style rigs. I don't see a lot on your pump, how much supply line do you carry?

I was in Ireland over the weekend and I stopped in at the Limerick City Fire Brigade. I also noticed the hose is all rubber. When I asked they said that they didn't know why and that is the only thing that they have ever used. Anyone have a better explanation?

We have 13 x 100Foot lengths of supply line (8 in the trays and 5 rolled) but we also have Hydrants every couple hundred feet so don't need huge amounts, also we don't use LDH possibly because the mains are a bit more modern and higher pressure??? thats just a guess. We tend to have say 2 or 4 smaller 2 1/2 inch feeds coming in rather that 1 large 5 or 6 inch feed.

As for the rubber lined hose i am not too sure, other states still run canvas, must just have been a decision someone made one day and it stuck.

The hose came about due to the amount of hoses that were going rotten and the amount of effort required to dry and re-stock, this is in the days of the single jacket canvas. The rubber coated stuff is a lot heavier but it seems to work, we don't go though a lot of hoses.
