Relics of St. Barbara, the patron saint of firefighters in Italy, are coming to Ossining

By Gary Stern

The Journal News • September 7, 2008

  • The relics of St. Barbara, the patron saint of firefighters in Italy, are coming to St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church in Ossining on Tuesday, where firefighters will gather for a Mass commemorating the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
There will be a noon Solemn Mass at St. Augustine on Route 9 followed by a reception.

The relics will then be taken to St. Peter's Church at Ground Zero on Wednesday and to St. Patrick's Cathedral on Thursday, the anniversary of 9/11.

Representatives from all Westchester County fire departments have been invited to St. Augustine. At least 75 are expected, said Lynda Costello, a parishioner who helped organize Tuesday's events.

As it says above "Firefighters invited." Representatives from each department in Westchester County and beyond have a chance to attend a free lunch prepared by a world known chef.

Firefighters from Italy have traveled to Westchester County NY in tribute to all those lost on 9/11/2001.

Any Questions feel free to send me a PM.

Thank you.
