A transformer exploded inside the Bowline Point power plant in West Haverstraw about 1 p.m. this afternoon.

Once the air is clear, the firefighters will go in and finish the job, he said.

No power outages have occurred.

The explosion was reported just after 1 p.m. today at the plant along the Hudson River.

Numerous fire departments and EMS units are at the scene.

North Rockland schools Superintendent Brian Monahan said he was told about 1:40 p.m. that the incident was contained to the plant and that the school bus routes would not be affected by the incident.

School was expected to release students at the usual time.
