In this visit with you I am going to take a point of personal privilege and pay my regards to my local branch of the Fire Service Brotherhood. While I was on the road, traveling on business, the Adelphia Fire Company came to the aid of my wife and daughter. I am writing this commentary as a way of thanking the Brotherhood for taking care of one of their own.

Many have been the times when I have written or spoken about the fire service being a real Brotherhood; a living and breathing entity which is connected across the miles and through the years. I have believed, for a long time, that we in the fire service are part of something special, something which transcends any one person, place, or thing.

In most instances I have written based upon my global view of the world. That view of my personal part of the world changed considerably on the afternoon of Sunday, July 27, 2008. For you see, it was the Brotherhood in Adelphia, NJ, that took care of my wife, my daughter, and my home while I was on a consulting trip to Central Pennsylvania.

This is something all of us can relate to, and would do or will do sometime in your lifetime.

Sometimes 2 days in a row...

Thanks to the Arlington Firefighters and Medics, NPD, and Millbrook Rescue Squad for taking care of my Wife a few months back...

But is it normal for the fireman on the ambulance to give the patient a kiss?
