Fairview on the Trunked Radio System

2 posts in this topic

This is one of those questions where the answer is not critical, I was just curious if anyone has any info as to why Fairview continues to utilize the low band radio frequency 46.26 for their communications operations, even though they conduct daily (1810) radio tests on the trunked radio system.

Or are they still "shaking_it_out" for any issues prior to making the switch?

I'm not sure ....but using the trunk radio to keep "members hands on" is a good idea.

If you save it for a rainy day or the biggie a person may not be familar with its operation.

I think testing on it is a good idea. As far as going full operation (for FFD)- that could happen. However, more UHF portables would be needed and other details being ironed out.

This may sound negative , but last week during M/A relocates and apparatus sent to the scene of a working fire it was obvious that some apparatus riders never used the trunk radio > and needed more training on it. This must have been frustrating for dispatchers at 60 Control. Having to repeat themselves over and over switch to Fire XX on the trunk radio !

It was clear the listener was thinking "uh ,,I never used that radio" "How do I switch?" " I'll press the "on" button ,, the orange one ! *Sorry but that is a fact.

I think the system is working out well. What does everybody else think ? Does the system exceed your expectations? Maybe we should set up a EMTBravo poll . Rate the Trunk system in Westchester County.
