Westchester Trunk Radio System Programming BC246T

5 posts in this topic

I am working on trying to program the Westchester County Trunked Radio System into my BC246T scanner. I tried following the directions that were on the website for the BCT15 but at the end for some reason it doesnt display the north and south system. After trying to program it all that shows up are two westchester county groups, there is no north or south system. I tried programmig in the county system by hand but when I was down in Westchester I couldn't hear anything. I programmed in all the frequencies and the talkgroups. Does anyone have any advice of how to download the system to the BC246T scanner. I would really appreciate it.

Try looking through this Easier to Read Scanner Manual BC246T.

I looked throug the easier to read manual and everything I did seemed to be correct. I heard that since westchester has a north and a south system you have to program in those frequencies separately. When I program in the talk groups how do I know which ones go with the south zone and which ones go with the north zones.

I am not familiar with the BC246T. The North and South Zones are only for frequency assignment. Program each set of frequencies in separate Banks. With a Motorola UHF system (as Westchester has) the Base, Step and Offset information aslo has to be programmed. Find how to do this at the "Easier to Read" link above in section "Edit System Options Menu" then "Edit Band Plan". The Base, Step and Offset info can be found at EMTBravo Trunked System info.

So, in each Bank you need all the frequencies, Base, Step and Offset info for that Zone. You will also need to program the Talkgroups you want to listen to in each Bank. Talkgroup listings can be found at RadioReference.com Westchester County Trunked System. Lastly, when you are in the area you need to verify that you are receiving the Control Channel. Manually go to 470.5750MHz (North Zone) or 476.2375MHz (South Zone) and verify that you are receiving constant "noise" on this frequency. This is the datastream that controls which frequency is assigned to which Talkgroup for each individual transmission. All Talkgroups are assigned to both Zones, as stated above you do need to program them all in each Bank (Zone).

Hope this helps.

Also, try looking through our thread at EMTBravo Trunked System Thread

The two scanners don't program the same way. For the 246 You have to set up two separate site systems, one with the trunk system parameters for the north and another for the south zones, and each programmed with the same talk groups you want to hear.

Attached is a copy of my BC246t WC trunked system file.

246WCTrunked.txt

copy it to your desktop and rename it to 246WCTrunked.mem and then upload it to your scanner using the BuTel ARC246 software (file/open system file/
