Apparently he was responding to a fire in another district when the tanker he was in lost out of control and crashed into the woods.

a very sad ending to a lilfe that should have lasted a lot longer. Apparatus accidents make up over 25% of firefighter deaths--- do we learn to slow down?? apparently not. speed kills.

may he rest in peace may his death no be in vain---lets learn from this---WHEN DRIVING APPARATUS SLOW DOWN FOLLOW DRIVING REGULATIONS AND REMEMBER THE LIFE YOU SAVE JUST MIGHT BE YOURS

Another tragic fire death in the State of New York---- due to apparatus accident. How do we prevent this from happening again and again??

What are Fire Depatments doing to decrease the line of duty deaths??

My feeling is every emergency vehicle operator should take and pass an NHSTA and/or DOT approved course (EVOC) to ensure the knowledge and skill practice necessary, how to safely operate the types of emergency vehicles they will be driving.

This tragic accident is under investigation, maybe a tire blew out or the brakes failed or the accelerator got stuck, whatever happened, in my opinion anytime there is an occupant ejection, there is a pretty good chance that a seat belt was not being used.

Jack I agree EVOC is a start--good apparatus checks are important as well as a aggressive driver training program. We forget that we leave our 2 ton car jump into a 20 ton fire apparatus.

If the breaks failed or the pedel got stuck--this screams that there was no preventive program in the department.

lets learn from this tragic incident I am sure his family would not want his life to be in vain.

Each of our aparatus goes to GK for annual service, and checkout. We are also in the process of developing an annual driver re-qualifiacion program for ALL of our drivers.

Inappropriate for this thread bro, IMHO - the FF in the case being discussed was RETURNING from a call, as has already been pointed out, presumably at normal speeds. We don't know what the hell happened, but he wasn't trying to save 15 seconds getting anywhere.
