Rumor has it that it is possible that Mayor Clinton Young will be appointing a new Fire Commissioner on Wed july 9,2008. Deputy Commissioner Deborah Norman has been at the helm since former Commissioner Nick Chicchetti was fired in Dec by former mayor Ernie Davis. Interviews have been held over the last 6 months and no strong word on who will get the position.

While the new commissioner can't fix everything the commissioner does set the tone for how the dept is treated by the city. A strong personality with a desire to do right by the dept can go a long way. A yes man who is just going to toe the line for the administration equals more of the same garbage.

A commish who would fight for standards, discipline, equipment,cleaning up of the houses etc would certainly be to the benefit of the job,a couple of names thrown in the mix for the position and who are on the job stand for anything but standards/dicipline etc. In fact one of the guys is the mix is not respected by many guys at all and is known for not doing his job! Just what we need!!!

Mayor Clinton Young during his campaign for Mayor stated numerous times

that Mount Vernon needs a CHANGE. Yes, it absolutely does!!!

Remember Mayor Young if it wasn't for the Firefighters pushing and bringing in the other unions YOU

might not be Mayor! Keep the promises to the Brothers of the FDMV!

Why not start with the "CHANGE" in the Mount Vernon Fire Department?

- New Fire Commish

- Productivity and Accountability

- New Equipment

- New Apparatus

- Additional Training/Classes

- Hire More Firefighters / Increase Staffing Levels (FF SAFETY!)

- Clean-Up Firehouses and make the MUCH NEEDED REPAIRS which is a slap in

the face to ALL of the City of Mount Vernon Firefighters who must work in the

horrible conditions.

What better way to say "City Hall Does NOT Care" ???

If the individuals whose names are being thrown around actually get the nod, I feel very sorry for you guys. Then again it'll probably be a good thing. Hell there's no chance of anyone ever getting fired. Nobody will be able to do wrong in their eyes. It'll be the best Job Security any employee ever had.
