Date: 06/26/08

Time: Approx 09:15

Location: Downtown Waterbury

Frequency: Multiple

Units Operating: Waterbury FD, PD, Litchfield County Tanker Task Force

Description Of Incident: A 36" water main broke in downtown Waterbury, CT. This stopped the flow of water to all of downtown Waterbury, including St. Mary's hospital. The tanker task force was toned out, bringing in over 20,000 Gallons of water to the scene. The task force staged at Watertown firehouse, and then proceeded to stage at St. Mary's hospital. Multiple commercial pool water trucks provided water to the hospital while several Waterbury engines maintained the sprinkler system. The tankers were to be used if there was a breakdown in the pool water drafting operations, as the hospital was using nearly 15K gallons of water per hour. The tankers were also to be used if there was any structure fire in the city as the sole water source. Ultimately, the tanker task force was not put to this action and were released at approximately 13:15. Water is expected to be fully restored sometime Friday or Saturday.
