EMT charged in Fatal Hit and Run

GREENBURGH - A Hawthorne man who works as a New York City Fire Department emergency medical technician was arrested yesterday in the March 1 hit-and-run death of an Elmsford pedestrian.

"It's just terrible to think that anyone would strike someone, or even an animal, and leave the scene," Greenburgh Police Chief John Kapica said after the arrest of Scott Desimone, 35, of 322 Fort Washington Ave. "Obviously, someone that understands the implications of what could happen by not getting the person quick medical assistance, that makes it even worse."

Desimone surrendered at Police Headquarters yesterday and was charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death, a felony. He was released yesterday on $7,500 bail after being arraigned by Town Justice Arlene Gordon-Oliver.

He's accused of hitting Manuel Guaman Saca, 51, in the early hours of March 1. Family members said Saca, a father of five, was walking along Saw Mill River Road to his job at a newspaper distribution center off Hunter Lane. A truck driver found Saca's body in a snow-covered roadside ditch about 8:40 a.m.

I think it would be easier just to take responsibility. Just basic human decency.

Very sad across the board.

As far as how society has become...I'm not so sure. I'm sure hitting some one is a very traumatic experience and its not uncommon to hear people leaving the scene out of pure terror, but for the most part my experiences were they eventually understood the gravity of the situation and turned themselves in an appropriate timeframe.

My thoughts go out to all families.

Perhaps we should all wait until the jury has reached a verdict before crucify this guy. I am sure we all feel the same way, but innocent until proven guilty.

I don't think, at least speaking for myself, we are not trying to crucify this man. I think we are just voicing our opinion on an ever more increasing incident that is occurring across the country

You are correct and speak for me also....I responded to a comment on morals, not the person charged.
