Off-Duty NYPD Officer Killed In Palisades Parkway Crash

HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. -- An off-duty New York City Police officer was killed early Sunday morning when his car went out of control and hit a tree on the side of the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Haverstraw, state police said.

Jose Calderon, of New Windsor, worked in the 19th Precinct in Manhattan.

State police are investigating a report that a car was driving the wrong way on the northbound Palisades Parkway about the same time as the crash.

The crash happened just north of Exit 14.

Police ask anyone who might have been on the parkway before dawn and saw something to call 845-364-0200.
