Medic testifies in former Mt. Kisco cop's homicide trial

The Journal News

WHITE PLAINS - The extent of Rene Javier Perez's fatal injuries was the center of this morning's testimony in the trial of George Bubaris, a former Mount Kisco police officer accused of killing the homeless immigrant last year.

Westchester County paramedic Danielle Garabito testified she found an unresponsive, hypothermic Perez on the side of Byram Lake Road in Bedford the night of April 28, 2007.

She said Perez appeared to be in shock, and that she directed the ambulance

Article

The article mentions a County Medic. Is this medic a county cop who is also a medic or did they mean Westchester Ambulance (WEMS) the company from mt. kisco?

They probably meant Westchester EMS. The County PD does not run an ALS service.

The Medic works for Westchester EMS (Stellaris Health/Northern Westchester Hospital), the not-for-profit EMS company that provides ALS for northeastern Westchester County under contract with several municipalities. It was most likely 45-M-1 that covered the call.

Also, the correct spelling of the medic's name is Garavito, NOT Garabito as the article states. Those who have worked with her know her formerly as. She always gets the interesting calls!

Just a reminder how critical a PCR can be....each and every one, we all have our "frequent fliers". From the article, it appears Paramedic Garavito did an excellent job documenting the incident. I just don't think it's fair that her name was published in the paper in a murder trial....it always makes me worry about witness intimidation, especially in a small community.

If so concerned about revealing the paramedic's name to those who might do her harm, then why not only correct the spelling of her current last name but also publish her maiden name on a public forum?

Good point WAS. I missed that article, but caught it clear as day here.

I thought Danielle and Al's last name was "Garavito" not "Garbito."

Am I wrong or did they mess that one up?

And no worry about witness intimidation... from what I gather Danielle didn't and doesn't know anything that the prosecution can really use.

I'm pretty sure it's public knowledge anyway...inst it (in terms of the names of witnesses)? I mean, any one of us could go down to White Plains and sit in on this trial if we pleased.
