I'll take a guess and say Bill is in some unusual position taking a shot the "black gold " spilled in the river?

Ok,...... Here are the photo's ...... I had truly intended to post them last night but when I looked at the clock and saw it was almost midnight and said ....OH CRAP.... I have to be up for work at 4:30am ..... I knew it wasn't going to happen....... So, I posted the teaser photo which is one that made me laugh....

Anyway, I heard the MA dispatch for Wappingers and their Ladder 68-45 for a "person stuck on a boat - approximately 50 feet up" at Whites Marina. I said to myself - Did the boat hit a nasty wave and land in a tree? 50 feet up? So I figured I would go see what it was all about..... Apparently, a woman scaled the mast on a sailboat for reasons unknown - Maintenance? Trying to get away from her husband? I don't know...... But apparently she froze and was unable to come back down on her own..... She was about 35 ft up and straddling a boom off the main mast when New Hamburg FD arrived....... You might not think 35 ft is high but it is when your straight up and on a swaying mast to boot...... Anyway NHFD's Tower is out of service so they requested Wappingers to respond with their ladder to remove the woman from the mast. WFD set up their ladder in short order and safely removed the woman off the mast.

What New Hamburg firefighters had on arrival...... It was beautiful evening.....

WFD slowly inched their ladder up to the boom at which point, they fitted the woman with both a ladder belt and life jacket as a precaution.

The woman makes the transition from the mast to the ladder.

The woman with assistance of a WFD firefighter straddles the ladder bed to safety.....

Mission accomplished.......The woman who was elated to be off the mast is escorted off the ladders turntable....

Hahaha finally, closure!!!

Looks to be a job well done by all. Will be interesting to hear the story behind the pictures (i.e. her reasoning for going up there).

Good one! Actually, there's plenty of reasons to climb a mast... lines get snagged, you snap a halliard, etc... Only way to fix it is to climb up there. Usually you have a plan for how to get back down though!

53-45 is out of service, it was sold to a vol. fire dept in Georgia, New Hamburg Fire Distict has a new Sutphen tower ladder (SPH) on order, Wappingers 68-45 will handle all truck assignments till the new tower ladder arrives.

Usually when you need to go up a mast, here in the 21st century, you get hoisted up in a harness or a funny little bucket seat called a bosun's chair. Climbing up on your own is for pirate movies... and apparently her.

I didn't realize in the first pic of the ladder what the orange thing was. Reading the text explained it as a PFD - good thinking, didn't occur to me to use those looking at the pics form the comfort of home. Although, thought it was interesting the second guy on the ladder didn't have one on in that shot.

Good Point. If one needs it...both do.

Think on this.........He is wearing it incase he falls off the ladder. I'm not saying he should not, but we dont provide additional PPE to members climbing a ladder over concrete, so do we realy need it over water? Hmmmmmm
