Does Anybody Know If They Make A Scanner That Runs On Batteries? In Case The Power Goes Out! Thanks.

Handheld (portable) scanners all run on batteries. A list of these can be found at Wiki - Radioreference.com. These scanners can be run on AC by use of a plug in transformer.

None that I know o. If ya really want to run it off a battery, you might ind up getting a moblie scanner, and one of those ca jumper boxes that has a cigar lighter outlet on it, and puit a plug on the end of thescanner's power cable.

Maybe look in to running it off of an Uninteruptable Power Supply (UPS) like they have for computers.

Scannermaster.com has some outside battery packs, or at least they used to. Even try looking at HAM radio websites for some to run a mobile / desktop also. HAMs when they have their field days have some unique setups. Best bet is to go the portable scanner route with both rechargeable and alkaline batteries.

I don't mean to jack your thread but I have a Uniden BCT15 and I seem to have pretty crappy service when scanning the North Zone and a lot of it comes in broken up, is there a new antenna that is better then the one that came with it that I could buy to increase the reception? If so does anyone have any suggestions as to a good brand?

Bewster FD's High band Ops channel is 154.37 MHZ which is also FDNY's Brooklyn chanel. I NEVER heard Brooklyn at mt home in Lake Crmel, that is, until I purchased the RH77A.

DOC, I guess you'll have to plug in BFD's PL to block out Brooklyn. ;)

So I got my new antenna the other day and when I put it on the antenna points out of the back where as the original antenna pointed up. Did I order the wrong one b/c now I can't put it in front of a wall or anything because it comes like 12" out the back. Kind of annoying!

Just get yourself a right angle BNC adapter to re-orient the antenna jack. While not necessarily my favorite supplier of RF hardware, Radio Shack has a serviceable one, part # 278-116, for $5.49
