False fliers fan flames in Town of Montgomery

By Meghan E. Murphy

Times Herald-Record

May 01, 2008

MONTGOMERY — Inaccurate fliers circulating around town this morning are causing alarm among Montgomery residents.

The papers, which state “This Summer If You Bar-B-Q In Your Own Backyard, You May Be Arrested!!!” are wrong, according to Montgomery fire Chief Bob Reynolds.

"That is absolutely false,” Reynolds said. “I think this issue has become a political football and nothing else.”

The fliers reference a proposed open burning code being discussed at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Town Hall that would apply only to farmers and developers. Drafted by area fire chiefs, the new law would require that any farmer or developer planning an open burn do so only during the daytime Monday through Saturday, and notify the fire department about the burn.
