Apparatus Numbering?

4 posts in this topic

Someone with a little more knowledge of Westchester fire history is going to have to field this one...

I'm aware that Tower Ladders and Ladders are listed separatly. As in, there can be two #12's for example (ect. ect). I understand the desire to differentiate between the two types of rig, but doesn't this cause more confusion in the end? Also, to add to the mix in more than one case, both the Ladder X and Tower Ladder X are in fact Tower Ladders. (Yes, this was all prompted by the photo on the EMTBRavo page shower "Ladder 1" which is a tower)

Why, and what is the method behind apparatus numbers?

some ancient history, when tower ladders were first delivered to the area they were numbered sequentially upon arrival date.As an example Port Chester took delivery of the 2nd TL in the county and was designated TL2 even though PC had L30 and L31. Hope this helps

So that would mean that Thornwood had the 1st Tower ladder in the county because they have TL1?

It also has to do with the fact that some departments replaced their ladder with a tower ladder but chose not to have another number assigned.
