Quick firefighter response saves NY apartment building

Apr. 5--AUSABLE FORKS -- Several people were sleeping inside their apartments Thursday night when a fire erupted in the building.

As tenants fled the apartment where the fire broke out, AuSable Forks Fire Chief Jason Whisher ran from his home across the street and started banging on doors to wake up the other nine people inside the building.

As thick smoke billowed from the structure at 75 Palmer St., everyone inside, including five children, escaped unharmed.
