COLUMBIA, South Carolina (AP) -- Three people upset that a news crew was reporting on the arrest of a relative attacked the television reporter and yelled racial slurs at her and a photographer, authorities said Tuesday.

Are people insane or what? What good can come of this if you're the family?

I know we've discussed the media before but nobody deserves this kind of treatment for just doing their job!

Whaddya all think?

I'll Second That!!!

While not a big fan of the press, and a good deal of how they sensationalize arrests of Emergency services personnel, that was just plain WRONG!!!!!

Why does the media need to be in front of this families home? The story is about an individual being arrested in connection with a murder. Stake out the court house and jail and they can get all the footage they want. To do this in front of the families house is an invasion of their privacy and implicates them in the suspects activities. My favorite example is the Olympic bombing in Atlanta. Just about everyone in this country can pick the original suspect, Richard Jewel out of line up and most people still think he was responsible. Eric Rudolph got a day or two tops of national media coverage during his 5 years on the run and eventual capture. The media is full of vultures who are too often no better than the criminals they cover. No one deserves to be attacked the way that reporter was, but I'm the last one to step in there and protect these idiots.

Curious at what exactly precipitated the brawl. Like they say..there are three sides to every story. Not that it would excuse an assault.

That aside, it has always amazed me that reporters will go and put themselves into a threatening situation just to push the envelope as far as they can go. I am surprised that this doesn't happen more often.

This is a quote from an interview with one of the women charged with assault. Taken from News Ch. 7 web

Taylor was asked why the family seemed to leave the white Channel 4 reporter alone and go towards Charmayne. Taylor replied, “I don’t know, I mean, I guess because we asked him to leave and he pretty much just said okay and walked off. And they were throwing back comments at us like we don’t have to leave.”

According to that artcile in the news link I posted; The Homicide victim was the father of the people charged in the attack.
