PA CANCER LODD: It is with deep regret that we report the line-of-duty death of Lieutenant Jay L. Ervin of IAFF Local 655 - Bradford, Pennsylvania. Brother Ervin, 50, died on Saturday, March 1, 2008 from kidney and bone cancer. The visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Home in Bradford. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at 1 p.m., also at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy or condolences can be sent to Local 655 at P.O. Box 273, Bradford, PA 16701.

Thoughts and condolences to Lt Ervin's family and friends. 50 is way too young to go - especially like this.

Might want to think about this next time you're wondering whether to use PPE and SCBA.

Did the Lt have some specific exposure that deemed his death LODD? I am not familiar with the standards in PA.
