PA FF Dies of Injuries sustained at Structure Fire

Hey....

We were just informed that Firefighter Jack Gerhart, 65, of the Chambersburg, PA FD (Truck Company) succumbed to his injuries that had occurred on November 30th, 2004 while operating at a structural fire. Gerhart was a retired member of the DCFD as well. Reports are that he fell to the street from the back of the apparatus, while stretching a supply line and he suffered a severe injury. Gerhart, who was well-known in the area fire service, had been listed in serious condition until his tragic passing this afternoon. He was flown out from the fire scene following ALS treatment.

Gerhart responded to the fire with the Junior Truck Company, which runs out of headquarters in Chambersburg.

Gerhart, a retired member of the District of Columbia FD, was also an active member of a fire company in Shippensburg. PA and also responds in Chambersburg. The house fire was contained to one room.

As always-our condolences goes out to the friends and family of FF Gerhart and especially to the members of the CFD, SFD and DCFD.
