Ambulances: EWWWWW!

11 posts in this topic

I'm just curious....does anybody think twice when doing public ed to kids in EMS? You know, letting them climb all over the inside of a ambulance?

Persoanlly, most Urban EMS ambulances are filty inside....is that really good for a kid, especailly one that may have a weak immune system, to be climbing around in?

Think about how often the ambulance module is COMPLETLY washed, scrubbed down, and made as clean and sterile as possible. Still, after some of the skelly patients we transport.....would you cringe seeing kids playing around in that?

Our three are completely washed and sanitized once a week regardless of calls. On top of this we run a very tight ship on keeping them clean after each call, but I'm sure there is no 100% mark.

It's a fairly good point to question this but kids and public ed are a small part, considering we transport people every day with weakened immune systems. Both kids and elderly alike are highly susceptible so our daily call by call cleaning should be as good as we can do.

I wouldnt let my kids into one. Heck I am not keen on going in there myself! I always want to go in with gallons of bleach and a pressure washer.

In all honesty, MRSA and all that other fun stuff is on 99.9% of us anyway. Likewise, do you think a pre-K classroom or any school for that matter is much different? What about a pediatrician’s office? Six one half a dozen the other if you ask me... Practice basic hygiene and you'll be fine

we should actually wash them down with bleach after the kids are done. How many times have you seen green burgers hanging out of a kids nose??? or sneeze or cough without cover there mouth?? When you were a kid and didn't have a tissue what did you use for your runny nose?? a sleve?

I usually do the standard wipe down and check the seats for sharps. That is by far my biggest fear. Little johny get stuck with a needle that someone either dropped or got wedged between the seats.

If we have a drill going on, we take an ambulance. We use the stretcher as the "Food table."

At least the pediatricians office does not have that dirty ambulance smell. When we open the back doors to get the stretcher you can smell if the crews have clean in the last few days. Always been a big pet peeve of mine.
