16 posts in this topic

The mods can move this elswhere but I thought you would like to see these pics from the other day....the Elmont FD (Nassau County LI) was alerted on 2-6 for a TSL that had fallen on a car at the intersection of Hempstead Tpke. and Meacham Ave. The driver was very lucky to say the least, and was transported by nassau County PD ambulance with minor back and neck injuries.

I don't know, would that qualify as "Good" timing? I don't think you could pull that off again if you tried.

I would not necessarily call the driver "Lucky" ... :o

in as much as she/he was Fortunate not to have been more severely injured!

Those lights don't look THAT big, hanging 20 feet up in the air!

And in a related story, Nassau County announced today that they are increasing penalties for those who run red lights.

Good thing that those things are mostly made of plastic now, isn't it?

I see it now.... This looks like a new way to enforce traffic signal violations... Nassau County too good for red light cameras? j/k

That's actually a New York State DOT owned signal as Hempstead Tpk. is State Route 24. I guess the state will owe the car owner some big bucks for this. Interestingly, this would be less likely to happen if the state would spend the money to use metal mast arms to hang the signals, instead of span-wire. That is the standard practice in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. I guess NYS is too cheap to do it right.

Wow! I never realized how big those were. Thank God almost all of the lights around here are on poles and not on wires!

That Traffic Light is also an Obstruction of View.... Another Ticket.
