Stamford fire leaves man in critical condition

STAMFORD -- Firefighters spent an hour Thursday extinguishing a Pacific Street blaze that injured one man and left six apartments uninhabitable.

Firefighters responded to a report of a fire in a three-story apartment building at 730 Pacific St. at 3:26 p.m. The cause remains under investigation.

One victim, whom neighbors identified as first-floor resident Marian Popielarczyk, was transported to Stamford Hospital, where he was in critical condition.
