Pflugerville's "Fender Flare"

3 posts in this topic

While in Austin,TX recently, I had the chance to shoot a Pflugerville ESD 2 Pierce Arrow XT Engine.

What I found most interesting about this apparatus is that it has chevrons on the over the rear wheel fenders. This makes a lot of sense, especially when blocking a roadway at an angle. Sure, a chevron on the back is great, but it doesn't help that much if your apparatus is positioned on an angle. This is one of the most progressive things I have seen on fire apparatus in a long time.

i've never seen that before or have even heard of it. its a very smart idea thou. safety is very important. i wonder if i'll start seing the chervons over the rear wheels more often now.

It certainly is eye catching, but for me, I do not like it. I can definitely see where it could help, and I guess we really shouldn't be concerned with how "pretty" the rig is, but I do not like it there. I do like the chevrons on the back, though.

I am not a big apparatus buff on current trends, but does it look like the chevrons - either on the side or rear, are the trend now? Could it possibly be an NFPA item down the road?
