I noticed the haz-mat rig on the front cover of the Jan-Feb Fire Apparatus Journal....who mans this rig and does it respond on anything other then a special call from one of the County departments. Thanks guys be safe.

Westchester County Haz-Mat 1 is staffed by volunteer Haz-Mat Techs from all around the county from what I am told

It is stationed at the County Fire Training Center in Vahalla

It responds only when called

There are two other Haz-Mat rigs in the county one in Yonkers and one in Montrose at the VA

There is also the NYC DEP Hazmat units at the Katonah Office and the Croton Lake Gatehouse. There may be an additional unit in the Kensico Area.

Not necessarily, they will go where needed. They are NOT limited to handling only chemicals used in or around DEP facilities.
