It is with deep sadness and regret that Rockland Paramedic Services announces the passing of Deputy Chief John McDonagh earlier this morning. Deputy Chief McDonagh was recently hospitalized with complications from a bacterial infection which required cardiac valve replacement and bypass surgery. Early this morning Deputy Chief McDonagh died from complications from that surgery. 

 

Funeral Arrangements are still in the process of being made, although we expect that the wake will be Monday and Tuesday with a mass of Christian burial following on Wednesday November 24, 2004.

Woa. This was a bit sudden. I knew John from my reotations out in Rockland and my first reaction is one of utter shock. He seemed to be well liked and was a very important part of RPS. He will be missed as I doubt anyone would be able to just step in and take his place. RIP Brother.

Deputy Chief John McDonagh of Rockland Paramedic Services was recently hospitalized with complications from a bacterial infection requiring cardiac valve surgery along with an extended period of recovery.

 

John has served EMS in Rockland, Orange and Westchester counties for over 22 years. He began his career as a youth corps member of Nanuet Ambulance and is currently a life member. He worked for Empress Ambulance in Yonkers and currently serves as the Deputy Chief for Rockland Paramedic Services and Regional EMS. John has always been a “go to guy” in times of need for Rockland and Orange. He has helped out many police departments, fire departments, ambulance corps and municipal agencies with a variety of EMS and AED training.

 

John has been a 12-year member of the Empire Hook & Ladder Company    # 1 of the Nyack Fire District.

 

His friends and co-workers at RPS are seeing to all his needs. In anticipation of a prolonged recovery period, this “can do” guy is in need of assistance for his three young children and household.

 

A benevolent fund has been set up for John in order to allow his friends to help.
