Bledsoe County sheriff's deputies had asked for assistance directing traffic at the scene of an accident about 9 a.m. CST, and Theresa Kaufmann Lynn was responding at the time of her fatal crash, Mr. Scruggs said.

"She lost control of her vehicle while in an s-curve on a slick and foggy road," he said.

Assistant Capt. Lynn died after sliding off Summer City Road atop Waldens Ridge and hitting a tree, Mr. Scruggs said.

Regarding the woman who had been a member of the Luminary Volunteer Fire Department for about six months, Mr. Scruggs said, "She was outstanding."

Funeral Information

Funeral services for Firefighter Lynn will be held Monday, Dec. 24 at 10 a.m. at the Pikeville Funeral Home, 39299 SR 30, Pikeville, Tenn.
