6 posts in this topic

The new Communications Van was delivered today. I will post vehicle specs when I receive them. For now, enjoy the pic. The rig will be stored @ Westport FD HQ next to the new Hazmat 1.

I have a rather obvious question: In Connecticut, there is no County Government, that being said, I've heard of the Tolland County Fire Dispatch System. I take it this vehicle is paid for by multiple towns and they've decided to make it "Fairfield County" in name only? I'm just curious because Connecticut does have no County Government, and subsequently, no Agency to operate this vehicle under the auspices of "Fairfield County." Thanks.

P.S. I have no malicious intentions about this whole thing. It's just interesting to me that while County Government has been abolished, there is seemingly a vehicle run under the auspices of the County!;):P Thanks!

It could be that it's for the county HAZMAT team which might be (not 100% sure) made up of FF's across the county. It's the same thing up here in MA, except we go by state organized districts and not by counties.

The truck was purchased with homeland security grant money. Fairfield County Hazmat received the bulk of the funds and member towns of the team also put in. The resource will be available for more than just hazmats. I am not really sure how they are going to letter it up, but it will be a team resource and a regional resource. It will be stored in Westport but available anywhere it is requested for whatever reason. It will be Westport's responsibility to get it where it needs to go. If needed, I am sure Trumbull RDC (FCHM pageout center) could put out a call to techs trained on it to get it where it needs to go. Don't get hung up on "Fairfield County", it is a resource that can be used anywhere as far as I know.

Member Towns of Fairfield County Hazmat: Greenwich, Norwalk, New Canaan, Darien, Westport, Wilton, Trumbull, Easton, Weston, Bridgeport, Fairfield.

Yeah, in portions of Fairfield County there is also the Northwest Regional HAZMAT team that operates. So don't get too hung up on the "county" thing. Its most of the larger districts in the county, Danbury being the most obvious exception. Alot of the teams in the state are broken up into C-MED regions. Us guys from CT are still trying to figure out what the hell is going on.

Thanks for all the clarification guys. Just wondering what was going on! Glad to see that there is cooperation there and that while there may not be county government, the name of Fairfield County has not been lost as a resource! Salut and best of luck with the new rig!
