Tropicana Gets Juiced : Gaming License Revoked

What comes around, goes around... and Tropicana Resorts - owners of the Vegas and Atlantic City Tropicanas - have been given the pink slip from their own property by the great State of New Jersey.

The New Jersey Casino Control Commission has denied a gaming license to the Tropicana Atlantic City by a 4-1 vote. The commission said that Tropicana Resorts have failed to meet "the state's strict operating standards for financial responsibility, character and integrity." Ouch! New Jersey State Supreme Court Justice Gary Stein, has been named as operating trustee until a buyer for the property is found.

Nearly all of parent company Tropicana Resorts' properties have undergone massive staff cuts, with the deepest taking place at the Tropicana Atlantic City. As a result of the nearly 50% reduction in staff, reports have been flooding in that rooms are unkempt and infested, restrooms are filthy and there is trash or mess everywhere.

In addition to giving Tropicana Resorts the boot, the NJCCC has levied a $750,000 fine on the casino, the highest fine they've ever given out.

Tropicana Resorts is probably going to file an appeal, so we definitely haven't heard the last of this one.
