Bridgeport (WTNH) _ At least three people were killed this morning after a two-alarm fire burned three buildings. Three others were taken to the hospital.

"We started poking around and digging through the rubble and did confirm that there were three civilian fatalities, apparently an adult male, an adult female and infant," ," Asst. Chief Robert Petrucelli, Bridgeport Fire Dept., said.

"All three were huddled together in the collapsed rubble," he said.

The fire was reported at a multi-family home at 2345 Fairfield Ave. around 2:30 this morning, and spread to neighboring buildings.

"The third floor and second floor in the rear have collapsed," Asst. Chief Petrucelli said.

Making it more difficult for firefighters was the ice forming from their fire hoses and the buildings they are spraying. The temperature was in the teens when the call came in. Trucks with sand were called in to help out.

The conditions of the people in the hospital were not immediately available. They are reported to be an adult and two children.

We don't know yet what caused the fire.
