Crimson Fire Apparatus

6 posts in this topic

Recently I was looking online at TDA's, and the only builder that I could find that made them on a Spartan Chassis. well was the company owned by Spartan, its Crimson Fire; this got me thinking.......

Is Crimson Fire a quality builder of apparatus?

Are the aerials made by Crimson themselves?

If your department has a Crimson built rig, would you purchase another?

thanks,

Crimson was formed by Spartan Motors when they purchased Quality Fire Apparatus (ala Ranger) in Florida and Luverne (former maker of Chicago's pumpers) back in the late 90s / early 2000.

As far as I know their aerial ladders and towers are made by RK Aerials but they may have a RK rep at their shop like Smeal used to have when they made all of Pierce's aerials before they terminated the co-op effort and Pierce began making aerial devices on their own. I'm absolutely not sure about this so if anyone knows a Crimson rep, try and find out if you can please.

By what I have heard, Crimson does make a solid truck and many departments have been happy with them after the "custom kinks" were worked out.

From what I've seen at various trade shows and other experiences, Crimson builds a quality, progressive apparatus, including their aerial line.

The engineering in the ladder is propriatary, and they manufacture all their aerial devices and bodies themselves in Lancaster, PA (with former staff from LTI, I believe).

One of the features I really like is the outrigger leveling system:

Dallas, TX's operates a complete Spartan/Crimson TDA: http://www.crimson-fire.com/crimson/images...llasaerial3.jpg

I've heard Ardsley is also looking into a Crimson aerial, Hartsdale was looking at Crimson for an Engine but that didn't pan out.
