Suffern cops unveil motorcycle patrol unit

The Suffern Police Department today unveiled its Harley-Davidson and introduced its two-member motorcycle unit.

The $18,200 Harley-Davidson will be used for traffic duties, patrols and ceremonial functions, shared by experienced bikers, Sgt. John Gloede and Officer Glen Wilson.

Police Chief Clarke Osborn said the motorcyle came in place of a patrol car. He said the motorcycle is efficient for traffic work, fuel-efficient and draws people to the officer riding the bike.

Suffern also gained bragging rights as the only department in Rockland with a motorcycle unit on patrol, Osborn said.

I don't quite get why they would start a motorcycle unit AFTER it started to snow, but congrats?
